Radio 1’s Big Weekend – Survival Guide

This year’s Radio 1’s Big Weekend is set to be the musical highlight of 2017. Attracting some of the biggest names in the music industry such as Zara Larsson, Biffy Clyro and Emeli Sandé, the event will see tens of thousands of music fans flock to Burton Constable Hall in Hull.

That’s right, Hull.

You may think Hull seems an odd choice for a music festival but perhaps you should think again. Crowned City of Culture for 2017, Hull boasts a vibrant and eclectic live music scene with small intimate venues showcasing local talent. The Adelphi club is a must see for those with a love of alternative music. Whatever your musical preferences, we would definitely recommend exploring all the musical delights on offer during your visit.

With this in mind, the Big Weekend is fast approaching and now might be a good time to consider what you’ll need to bring with you to ensure you have an incredible time. Luckily, we have compiled a list to help!

  1. Wellies

The North of England is well known for its unpredictable weather and it will probably rain at some point. Don’t be tempted to wear your smart new trainers, if it does rain you will be forced to trudge through festival mud. We recommend a pair of Hunter Original Tall Gloss Wellingtons to keep your feet nice and dry.

  1. Money

This may seem obvious, but with food and drink prohibited, you will need to spend some cash while you’re there. Only draw out what you think you need for the day and don’t carry around excessive amounts of cash. It’s easy to misplace your wallet or purse, especially after a couple of drinks!

  1. Waterproofs

Ultimately, if you don’t take a waterproof it will rain. Pack the Showerproof Ladies Poncho from Joules and you’re all set for those inevitable showers.

  1. A warm jumper

With the event set to run until 10pm each night, it’s a good idea to bring a quick cover up should the temperatures drop. Our Desert Oasis Jumper will beat off the chill whilst you’re rapping along to Stormzy.

  1. Hat

Don’t ruin your festival experience with sun stroke! Should you be lucky enough to enjoy a heat wave during the Big Weekend, our GANT Contrast Twill Cap will keep those rays at bay.

  1. Backpack

You don’t want to be weighed down by so much stuff that you can’t throw some serious shapes to Sean Paul, so just take the essentials. Money, phone and sunglasses are all you’ll really need and our Herschel Classic Mid-Volume Backpack is the perfect place to store them!

And Finally…

Have an amazing time. See you in the fields!
